Firmware upgrade made unusable refilled cartridge

HP Recommended
Envy 5547
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My Envy 5547 stopped working with an error cartridge message. After hours spent to solve the issue I discovered that the automatic firmware upgrade made unusable the compatible refilled cartridge that were installed.

Reading in the forum I learned that HP don't give a real solution. Please say clearly: is firmware downgrade possibile?

Do HP allow the use of refilled cartridge?

This commercial practice is very incorrect. It gave me a damage of 60 € plus hours lost trying to understand the issue, on a 80€ printer.

I'm sorry but if HP don't solve this issue I'll buy a new printer, and certainly not a HP.

I had the same problem and wasted a day trying to fix. HP is not upfront about trying to block non-HP cartridges and help you figure out what is going on. I tried downgrading the firmware and was unsuccessful. I turned off the auto update and won't update firmware again (unless I have to). My solution was to swap the chip from a HP cartridge into my non-HP cartridge. How to swap is not obvious, but I found instructions via searching  the web (as part of a cartridge for sale listing on Amazon).

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I'll try to follow your instructions even if I'm not really willing to buy a HP cartridge😉
