- Firmware won't update--stuck in an endless loop

My HP Officejet 9025e (wired ethernet connection) periodically decides to check for firmware upgrades by itself, It then fails downloading the upgrade, and hangs until I reboot the printer. SInce it does this every 20 minutes or so, this makes the printer fairly useless.
I found a tip on the Community to run HP print and scan doctor, and then change my IP address from DHCP to fixed, but this doesn't help. I tried downloading the firmware from HP web support driver page, but this doesn't work, and I tried updating the firmware through HP smart, but this doesn't work. I tried connecting the printer to my computer with a USB cable, but this doesn't work. I tried turning off automatic updates, but this option is grayed out (not available), perhaps because I am a HP ink customer. And the irony of it all is that, from the HP support site, it looks like the latest firmware update is a May update, and I'm sure I must already have that.
How can I stop the endless update loop that is making my printer unusable without several minute reboots?
Thank you

Welcome to club 🙂 My Officejet8012e checking update before starting... update downloading to 100%, updating, restart printing and again... over and over...
Here are more same questions and no response from HP 😞
My printer is 4th day out of service.
