My new HP is having issues, trying to set it up for the first time and it keeps coming up with an error saying 'print system problem' and wants me to take out all the ink cartridges and put them back in, thinks theres a leak or something but they all look fine, tried multiples things including hard reset but same message keeps appearing, and cant get any further with it

Hi @SHELLEY8419,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that for HP inkjet printers, a good first check is to remove and reinstall all ink cartridges, then verify the vent area and ink levels/status. HP guidance also notes that many printers have a model-specific Print Quality/troubleshooting document on the support page, and that resetting the printer and checking for firmware updates can help in some print-related issues.

What you can try:

Remove all cartridges and reinstall them firmly:

  • Make sure each cartridge is fully seated.

Inspect the cartridge vent area:

  • Some cartridges can have a clogged vent area due to adhesive; if present, carefully clear it as described in HP support guidance for supported cartridge types.

Check for model-specific troubleshooting:

  • On your Official HP® Support, look under Solve a Problem > Print Quality or cartridge/setup troubleshooting.

Reset/power cycle the printer:

The materials mention resets as a valid troubleshooting step for print issues.

Check the firmware if the setup allows:

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
