Green light is flashing and screen flashing HP repeatedly. Suggestions for factory reset seem to make no impact on issue. Looking for help before I throw this piece of junk away- thank you!

Hi @Milobos06

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can imagine how frustrating it feels to see your LaserJet Pro MFP M29w stuck with a flashing green light and the HP logo repeating on the screen, especially after you’ve already tried a factory reset.

Thank you for the effort you’ve put in so far—let’s go step by step to see if we can bring the printer back to a stable state.

Step 1: Power Reset

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds to allow the power system to discharge fully.
  4. Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extension cords).
  5. Reconnect the cord to the printer and power it on.

Step 2: Check Firmware

If the printer powers on but remains stuck, updating the firmware can often refresh the startup sequence.

  • Connect the printer to your computer via USB.
  • Download the latest firmware for your model here: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Firmware Update
  • Run the update utility and follow the on‑screen instructions.

Step 3: Disconnect Network and USB

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Remove any USB cables and disconnect from Wi‑Fi.
  3. Power the printer back on with no connections.
  4. If it stabilizes, reconnect one cable at a time to isolate the cause.

Step 4: Cold Reset

Since the factory reset did not help, try a cold reset:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Hold down the Cancel button while turning the printer back on.
  3. Continue holding until the printer begins initializing.
  4. Release the button and allow the printer to complete startup.

Step 5: Test with HP App

  1. Install or open the HP App on your computer.
  2. Add the printer and run Diagnose & Fix.
  3. This will check for startup, firmware, and communication issues.

Download the HP App here: HP App for Windows

These steps should help break the loop and bring the printer back to normal operation. If the flashing persists even after firmware update and cold reset, it points to a deeper hardware fault, but trying these actions first often restores functionality.
