Envy 6458e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just set up a new HP Envy 6458e printer. When removing the blue tape, a strip of foam fell out of the machine somewhere along the left edge (from either the scanning or ink-loading lids). This piece was not mentioned in the setup directions, so I'm not sure if it was just there for packing/shipping purposes, or if it is supposed to remain in the printer somewhere. See photos - I'm not sure exactly where it was originally. Any idea if this piece was supposed to be removed?

Hi @bfin1,

I'd like to help

I understand the strip of the foam was removed from the printer.

The foam is part of the scanner lid.

As  this is a hardware issue, I'd recommend you contact HP Phone Support in your region for service options

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. I had the exact same experience when unboxing this printer. After following the above suggestion to contact support by telephone, my question is still unanswered. The rep suggested that I save the strip somewhere in a drawer in case it becomes clear whether it is an integral part of the printer or merely packing material that looks important. Good luck to us who purchased this printer!

I have the same problem--brand new Envy 6458e printer right out of the box, removing the shrink wrap and packing materials, and here is this very precisely shaped and cut black foam strip falling out of the machine.

I'm having a hard time believing it's packing material:  It's just too precisely cut.  And the document feeder is finicky--on a new machine!  C'mon, HP.20220107_170840.jpg20220107_170924.jpg20220107_170846.jpg

Just noticed that notifications about this thread have been going to my spam - anyway, I'm glad you tried this as it seems that will save me the effort. That sounds like an absolutely useless response. Maybe I will try contacting them on Twitter, I've found that publicly shaming companies on Twitter is a far superior and faster method to actually get help than using their forums or support chat/phone.
