OfficeJet 8730
Linux

I have an OfficeJet 8730. I forgot the password to the administrative account and can now no longer change settings. I've tried to factory reset, but the option appears to be missing from the menu. The only reset options I am presented with is for Fax, Network, and so on.

How can I either remove or recover the admin password or factory reset the printer to default?

Thanks.

Hello,

Unfortunately, I've done this procedure already. It does NOT remove the EWS username/password requirement or the lock icons on the EWS modules. I've done both a semi and partial reset multiple times.

It doesn't reset anything. Once I go through the initial setup such as picking my language, time, etc it still maintains the same network settings I manually entered and retains other settings.

I have also done the printer maintenance resets for Network, Fax, etc.

There is some kind of bug that is not allowing the printer to reset.

I've read the user manual ten times over, the quick start, googled and read dozen of forum posts including spiceworks and other I.T related forums.

Thanks for keeping me posted

At this point i suggest you contact HP Support in your region for service options

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.
6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Thank you

Unfortunately, this is a non-solution. "Pay to fix a problem we've built into the printer."

I am certainly not going to pay to have a $250.00 printer repaired for the cost of buying a new printer.

It's upsetting HP cannot suggest a solution on how to repair the printers they design and build.

It's even more bizarre this device does not have a true factory reset.

This is why I steer clear of your consumer products (when possible) and SOHO products like Aruba switches and AP's.

Thanks anyway.
