Hello, I set up my printer a while ago and it started acting wonky lately.  So I tried to go into my Setting and it appears I have forgotten the password! Can someone help me reset it? HP OfficeJet 5740-e-all-in-one

@hgstevens

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Could you share the screen where it's asking for the password?

The default username and password for your printer would be blank or admin for both username and password.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi, I tried both admin and blank and then get the attached message. All the tabs, Scan, Fax, Web Services, Network, and Tools are locked.

I hope you can help me!

Thank you,

hgstevens

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  • Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button  from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.
  •
  • Once it is done set a new password for EWS page, follow the below steps:
  • Open a web browser and type the printer IP address in the address field exactly as it appears on the Configuration Page, and then press Enter.
  • Click the Security tab, and under General Security, set the local administrator password.
  • Keep the username default as admin.
  • Type the New Password and Verify Password.
  • Navigate to the bottom of the page and click Apply.
  • Use these credentials the next time you Log In to the EWS.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello Echo_Lake,

I was stuck at the first bullet because I don't have a cancel button (red x)  Please see attached jpg.  However I went into the the printer setting, there is an option to restore the network settings. When I click on it, it speaks about setting a new

password for EWS. I clicked it, chose "Yes" and printed the wireless report to make sure it was disconnected. I restarted everything but when I typed the "new" IP address, I got the dashboard with everything still locked. I clicked on the tabs and got the same message after I tried 2x admin and 2x blank... Nope.  Then I tried restoring again and this time when I connected to the network, I tried manually setting the IP address, printed the network info, restarted everything, cleared the cache, typed IP address in and once again, nope.

Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks again,

hgstevens
