I forgot my password. I CANNOT get into "system setup" to reset everything without said password. Anyone have an answer so I can get to the WIFI settings and enter in my new WIFI password?

Hi @HarryBohlz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer's password!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

try the following steps to reset the printer and regain access:

Perform a Partial Reset (Soft Reset)

This reset restores default settings but does not erase everything.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cable for 60 seconds.
  3. While plugging it back in, press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel (X) buttons.
  4. Release the buttons when the printer powers on.
  5. Try accessing the settings again.

Restore Factory Defaults (Full Reset)

If the Soft Reset does not work, you will need to restore factory defaults using the printer's built-in menu or NVRAM reset.

Using the Printer Menu

  1. Open the Home screen on the printer.
  2. Tap SetupService.
  3. Select Restore Defaults → Confirm Reset.
  4. The printer will restart and reset all settings, including the password.

 NVRAM Reset (Hard Reset)

If the menu is locked, follow this hard reset method:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Right Arrow (→) and Cancel (X) buttons.
  3. While holding these buttons, turn the printer on.
  4. Keep holding until you see “Permanent Storage Init” or the printer resets.
  5. The printer will restart, and all settings (including the password) will be erased.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi

After the reset, you must set up the Wi-Fi again:

  • Go to Setup → Network Setup → Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the new password.

NONE of this worked. I tried them all 3x. And I am STILL locked out of managing any setting behind a master password that I do not know - cuz I was stupid enough to change it and then lost it. If I cannot perform a FACTORY DEFAULT RESET on this thing, I am about to toss this HP junk in the garbage and go buy a new cannon at walmart for $39 and be done with it.

please advise.

Hi @HarryBohlz,

I understand how frustrating it can be!. We are here to help you.

It sounds like you're locked out of your printer’s settings due to a forgotten password, and you need to reset the Wi-Fi settings. The good news is that most printers have a way to reset to factory defaults, allowing you to reconfigure your settings—including Wi-Fi—without needing the password.

Since you have performed all the steps mentioned above,  Could you please share a screen shot of the error or the page where it is asking for the password?

I request you to shrae the details in private message.n order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Support Community profile, next to your profile Name.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
