HP LaserJet MFP M28-M31
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I have a mac with 10.15.7 OS and I can't find the password to my printer(HP LaserJet MFP M29w) and need to connect it to a new WiFi network. I can't sign in with HP Smart because I don't know the password, but I do see the printer. In HP Utility I also can't change the network because I don't have the password. I tried the steps for a factory default I found online, but no luck.

I would like the steps to perform a factory restart and also the default user and password for when it does restart. I see that other people have had this issue, but the steps to fix are not posted.

Any help would be nice.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

There are several ways to reset the wireless (which will meet your needs), these resources will be useful:

I appreciate the video's, but I don't have the admin password. The web browser method ask's me for a password. I can't connect with any of the HP services or app's without a password. I was hoping for a front button combination to do a factory reset so I can set it up from scratch again with HP easy setup or HP utility.

Thanks

Hi,

The first video shows how to reset the wireless.  After reset, use th HP Smart to connect printer to a network.

If you forget the HP Smart password, do a password reset on HP Smart.

Hope that helps!

You can't password reset the HP Smart as far as I can see. If you know how or a guide on how I would try it. When I do it is still looking for the admin password. All of the apps seem to want the admin password, and yes I tried admin as the password, HP utility, HP smart, the web gui all  want an admin password when I want to make any meaningful change. Thats why it is rather frustrating. I followed a few different youtube videos and online guides and none worked. The printer still prints when its plugged in usb, the HP utility and HP smart function and show me settings, so I'm pretty sure the printer is actually working.  Thats why I want to do a total factory reset.

Thanks for your help.
