Hi @Mercer3

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It seems like your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer is having trouble recognizing or utilizing Tray 2.

Let's troubleshoot step-by-step to get it working:

1. Check Tray 2 Paper Settings

Open the printer's control panel and navigate to Setup > Preferences > Paper Settings.

Ensure Tray 2 is configured for the correct paper size and type (e.g., Letter, A4, Legal).

If the paper size/type in Tray 2 does not match your print job settings, the printer may default to Tray 1.

2. Verify Tray 2 Setup in Printer Driver

On your computer: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 and select Printer Properties or Printing Preferences.

Under the Paper/Quality or Advanced tab, set the paper source to Tray 2 and confirm the paper size/type matches what’s loaded in Tray 2.

3. Test Tray 2 Through the Printer Menu

From the printer's control panel, print a test page specifically from Tray 2:

Navigate to Setup > Reports > Printer Status Report or similar.

During this process, choose Tray 2 as the source to check if it feeds paper properly.

4. Reload and Align Paper in Tray 2

Remove the paper from Tray 2, fan the stack to prevent sticking, and reload it neatly.

Ensure the paper guides are snug but not too tight against the paper to avoid feeding issues.

Confirm that the tray is fully pushed in and securely locked into place.

5. Update Printer Firmware

HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.

6. Reset the Printer

Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about one minute.

Plug it back in, turn it on, and test printing from Tray 2 again.

7. Check for Physical Issues

Remove Tray 2 and inspect it for any debris, obstructions, or damage that might prevent proper operation.

Check the rollers in Tray 2 and the printer to ensure they’re clean and functional.

8. Advanced Driver Settings

Open the printer's Advanced Printer Settings or use the HP Smart app:

Ensure Tray 2 is enabled as an active source in the settings.

Some printers have a manual option to prioritize or enable additional trays.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
