Printer will go into sleep mode and not come back on to print the next document.  I have reset the sleep time to DO NOT SLEEP.  The only way that I can get this to work is to power (shut down) the printer and restart it and then it will print my document.  This happens every time the printer sits for longer than 5 minutes.  Need this resolved.  Firmware is 6.28.1.35-202511201716

Hi @bball201,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer goes into sleep mode and doesn't wake automatically to print, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take:

Verify Sleep Mode Settings:

  • Make sure that you've properly adjusted the sleep mode settings. Although you've set it to "Do Not Sleep", double-check the settings via the printer's control panel to ensure they are correctly configured.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, newer firmware updates can include fixes for known issues. Check for updates on the Official HP® Support for your specific printer model.

Check Power Management Settings:

  • Go to your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) settings and review the power management options. Make sure that the printer's "Wake On" feature is enabled, which may allow it to wake from sleep upon receiving a print job.

Review Connection Types:

  • If the printer is connected via network, ensure that the network connection is stable and the printer's IP address hasn't changed. Unstable connections can cause the printer to not wake up properly.

Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure there are no error messages or issues indicated on the printer's control panel. Sometimes, an error inhibits the wake function.

Enable Auto-off Recovery:

  • Check if there is an option for auto-off recovery that can allow the printer to wake upon receiving a task.

Printer Energy Settings:

  • Navigate to printer settings and adjust the energy-saving mode settings if available. Some printers may have eco-settings that put them into a deeper sleep state to conserve power.

Reconfigure Network Settings:

  • Ensure that your printer's network settings (if applicable) allow remote wakeup features. This can be managed through your printer's EWS.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for your help.  I reset the printer to factory settings and that seems to have corrected the problem.  I appreciate the help.

Hi @bball201,

Thank you for your response.

I’m glad to hear the reset brought things back into harmony — like the quiet hum of a printer working smoothly again. Thank you for letting us know!
