How can I downgrade the firmware of the 2700e printer? It installed a firmware upgrade which I did not asked and now my ink cartridges are not recognized. The update made my printer effectively useless.

@Gaboros, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP 2700e firmware!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Unfortunately, HP doesn’t provide a way to downgrade firmware once it's installed. However, let’s troubleshoot and see if we can get your printer back up and running.
A few things to try:
Power Cycle – Turn off your printer, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in and restart. Sometimes, a fresh start helps.
Reinsert Cartridges – Remove the ink cartridges, check for any protective tape (if new), and firmly reinsert them.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts – Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts on both the cartridge and printer.
Check for Updates – While a downgrade isn’t possible, sometimes a newer update is released to resolve issues. You can check for updates via HP Smart or the printer’s control panel.
Use Original HP Cartridges – If you’re using refilled or third-party cartridges, the latest firmware may have affected their compatibility. If possible, try genuine HP cartridges to see if they’re recognized.
If none of these steps work, let me know what you’ve tried so far, and we can look into other solutions together!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

I don't think this is legal.
First of all I did not ask and agreed to the update it was forced on me. Secondly it has removed a feature and basically made my totally fine working printer useless. I can't print anymore at all with these cartridges.
I think this is my first and last HP product, thanks! 😡

@Gaboros, Regarding firmware downgrades, I want to be upfront—HP doesn’t provide an official way to roll back firmware once an update is installed. I know that’s not the answer you were hoping for, and I truly wish there were a simpler solution. These updates are designed to enhance security and performance, but I understand how they can also create compatibility issues, especially with non-HP cartridges.
That being said, let’s try to get your printer up and running again. A few things you can check:
Power Cycle the Printer – Turn it off, unplug it for about a minute, and then restart. Sometimes, a reset can help.
Reinsert & Clean the Cartridges – Remove them, check for protective tape (if new), and gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
Check for a Newer Update – While rolling back isn’t an option, sometimes HP releases follow-up updates to fix issues. You can check via HP Smart or the printer settings.
Use HP Original Cartridges – If you’re using third-party cartridges, the latest firmware may have affected compatibility. If possible, testing with genuine HP cartridges might help.
I completely understand if this experience has left a bad impression, and I appreciate your honest feedback. If you’d like, I can also help you explore other options, like alternative cartridge solutions or checking if your printer is eligible for HP’s Instant Ink program. Let me know how you’d like to proceed, and I’ll do my best to assist!
Take care, and I hope we can find a way to get you printing again soon.
