How do I install a driver for our HP 3520 to my WindowsXP computer? I have a laptop connected to the web, a memory stick, and I just need to know what files to copy over.

Many thanks for all your help Vikram.
Tried that, but the HP site doesn't recognise the serial number on the printer (which is an HP Deskjet 3520 - also probably obsolete!)
I think I've given up though. It's annoying because my old WindowsXP Dell laptop, which died, printed quite happily. I design and make furniture using Coreldraw7 (obsolete) which won't run in anything much newer than XP, but which I can think design in without having to think about how to put it on the screen, and I'm too old to start learning a new drawing program (I've tried!) The kind guys at Acrosoftware helped me to get CutePDF printer to work, so I can export in that for the short term, but the long term solution is to buy another XP machine for my workshop so that I don't need to print any more and can use a memory stick between them. I might even try linking them!
But very many thanks for helping - it is much appreciated.

Hi @Hobbyhorse22,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand you would like to install a driver for your HP 3520 printer on a Windows XP computer using a USB drive.
First, we need a bit more information
Could you please confirm the exact printer model:
- Is it HP DeskJet 3520 or a different 3520 series (for example, Color LaserJet, etc.)?
This will help us check the correct driver availability.
Important Information About Windows XP
- Windows XP is an obsolete operating system, and HP no longer provides active driver support for many newer printers
- In many cases, full-feature drivers may not be available for XP
Basic Steps You Can Try
Step 1: Download the driver on an Internet-connected laptop
- Go to: Official HP® Support
- Enter your printer model (once confirmed)
- Select Windows XP (if available)
- Download:
- Basic driver or Full Feature Software (if listed)
Step 2: Copy Files to USB Drive
- Copy the downloaded .exe driver file to your memory stick
Step 3: Install on a Windows XP PC
- Insert the USB into the XP computer
- Open the file and run the installer
- Follow on-screen instructions
Alternative (If Driver Not Available)
- Connect the printer via USB
- Go to Printers and Faxes → Add Printer
- Choose:
- Local printer
- Use built-in drivers (if the model appears in the list)
If no XP driver is available:
- The printer may not be fully compatible with Windows XP
- Only limited or no functionality may be possible
Please share the exact printer model, and we’ll check and provide the correct driver (if available) and exact files for you.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!

You can download a Deskjet 3520 printer driver from the next link:
- >> Deskjet 3520 - printer driver - Windows XP
- Once you have in your laptop then you can copy to your memory stick, and then install in your Windows XP computer.

Thanks ferRX.
I tried that and it all seemed to go well until the install was at 87% when an error was flagged, something about file signatures being wrong, that the install had failed and that everything that had been installed was now going to be uninstalled. So I tried it all again and as soon as the error message came up I killed the power, waited a minuted and then booted up again. Nothing!
I really have given up now. I've bought another windows XP machine to use in my workshop and will transfer files from desk to workshop via mem stick.
Thanks for your help though.
