HP deskjet 3700
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP DeskJet 3700 All-in-One was working fine until it stopped working one day.

On the control panel and on the HP Smart, it says the printer is offline.

I pressed the wireless icon and the info icon to get the wireless network test results with the following: "Attention: Your HP printer is unable to connect to your wireless router. I do not understand the solution given. 1. The wireless router is powered on - yes it is. 2. Check that your HP printer network name (SSID) matches your wireless router network name (SSID) exactly -  he diagnostics results say Wireless On: PASS, Wireless Working: PASS, Connected: Not Run, Network Name SSID Found: FAIL. Current configuration / Network Name (SSID): Not Set. Therefore I cannot check that. 3. If they do not match exactly, run the wireless setup from the printer software to configure your HP printer - what does this mean? Where is the wireless setup? If they mean the HP Smart, see below.

The Method 1 from WIreless Quick Start Guide is not applicable to me because it's telling me to press and hold the wireless and cancel buttons, etc, then directing me to use the HP Smart, however it refuses to connect to my printer because it's offline, saying: "Select a different printer: HP Deskjet 3700 series must be turned on to add it to HP Smart. Once the printer is turned on, tap OK to refresh, then select the printer again." The printer is turned on, it's just "offline" because it's not connected to wifi.

The Method 2 (Use a computer IWTH the HP printer software already installed) doesn't seem to make sense - I press and hold the wireless and cancel buttons. Then I go to windows Start menu, select All apps. I cannot "click 'HP', click the folder for the printer, and select the icon with the printer's name" because there is no such thing. Under H I just see HP Smart. In my C drive there is a folder called HP however it only contains Diagnostics folder.

The Method 3 also didn't work for me. I pressed and held the wireless button, then the WPS button my my router. Waited. Nothing. I also logged into my router's admin page, there's nowhere for me to "enter the WPS PIN" which I obtained from the HP Network Configuration Page.

I have tried running the HP Print and Scan doctor. It just says "Failed to communicate with your selected product".

I feel like I'm running in circles with all these "solutions" that are not solving my issue. I'd like any additional input, however I have tried every conventional methods.

@dcb0308, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand the printer shows as offline and you are not able to print. Let us try these steps:

  • Restart the router, the printer, and the PC
  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

To connect the printer, refer to - Connecting an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

Try printing. If the issue persists, we will install the printer using IP address.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
