Completely on its own, my HP 3830 resets itself every few minutes. I don’t know if reset is the correct term for what it is doing. It’s as if it is sitting asleep and wakes up very briefly then goes back to sleep. I recently changed my home internet and WiFi provider.

Hi @AnnieMac57

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing those details—it really helps narrow things down. I can imagine how confusing it must be to see your printer constantly “waking up” like that, especially after switching internet providers. Let’s get it back to behaving properly! 😊

This kind of behavior often happens when the printer is trying to reconnect to a Wi-Fi network it no longer recognizes. Here’s a structured set of HP-recommended steps to help stabilize it:

🔄 Step 1: Restore Network Settings on the Printer

Let’s start fresh with the wireless setup:

  1. On the printer’s touchscreen, tap the Wireless icon.
  2. Tap the Settings gear ⚙️.
  3. Select Restore Network Settings.
  4. Confirm the reset when prompted.

This will clear out the old Wi-Fi info and prepare the printer for a new connection.

📶 Step 2: Reconnect to Your New Wi-Fi

Once the network settings are reset:

  1. Tap the Wireless icon again.
  2. Choose Wireless Setup Wizard.
  3. Select your new Wi-Fi network from the list.
  4. Enter the password carefully.

Make sure the printer is within good range of your router and not blocked by walls or electronics.

🔧 Step 3: Power Cycle Everything

Sometimes a clean slate helps:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the printer back in and power it on.

🧠 Step 4: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.
  • Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.

If the printer still keeps “waking up” every few minutes after these steps, it might be reacting to background network pings or power-saving settings. But let’s see how it behaves after this reset and reconnection—fingers crossed it settles down! 🤞

Let me know how it goes or if you'd like help checking your router settings too. We’ll get this sorted! 💪

Take care, and have an amazing day!
