Hi @jw2o,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding making your HP OfficeJet 3836 printer discoverable!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Setting Up Your Printer

Initial Setup:

  • Ensure your printer is powered on and has completed its initial setup process, including language, country, and paper settings.

Network Connection:

  • Connect your printer to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or mobile device. Use the printer's control panel to navigate to Wireless, then select Wireless Setup Wizard to connect to your network.

Install Drivers and Software:

  • Download and install the latest drivers and software for your printer from the HP Support website. This will often include HP Smart or HP Easy Start, which guides you through network setup and printer discovery.

Troubleshooting Discovery Issues

Ensure Printer Discovery:

  • Make sure the printer's wireless signal is turned on. You can check this by ensuring the Wireless light on your printer is lit (not blinking).

Check Network Connection:

  • Confirm that your printer is connected to the correct network. A quick test is to print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to verify connection settings.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer, router, and computer to refresh the network connection.

Remove and Re-add the Printer:

  • On your computer, go to Devices and Printers under Control Panel. Remove the printer if it is already listed, and then reinstall it using Add a Printer and follow the setup instructions.

Disable or Configure Firewalls:

  • Ensure that any firewall software on your computer or network is not blocking printer communication.

Use HP Smart:

  • The HP Smart app is a useful tool for managing your printer. Download it from your device’s app store and follow the setup instructions.

I hope this helps.
