Envy 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've tried several times to load the drivers and software for my printer. The printer is signed in to a wireless network and I can print from my iPad.  I CANNOT print from my desktop.  It will not recognize the printer.

I get messages like:

Windows does not have a network profile for this device

Windows cannot install the HP Envy 4520 series kernel-mode print driver

Something about a 4.0 kernel isn't allowed by windows

Please help!

My son-in-law fixed this.  It has something to do with Microsoft not removing the old drivers when they upgraded everyone to Windows 10.

I don't understand the computer talk, but these are the steps he took to fix the problem.

How to tell this is the problem:
printui /s /t2
click "Add..."
Find the manufacturer and model number. Try to add the driver. If you get an error message about the driver not being installable this driver needs removed!

Removal:
Open an cmd.exe window as administrator
cd %systemroot%\system32\driverstore
findstr /sip "<model number>" *.inf

for each listed folder do the following
takeown <foldername> /r /a /D Y
icacls <foldername> /grant everyone:f /t /c
rd /q /s <foldername>

After removing drivers you can do the diagnostics step again to see if you have removed all of the right drivers.

Reboot the machine and install drivers either via manufacturers website or windows update.

Hi @SCDLW,

Thanks for visiting the HP community. 🙂 A very good day to you! 🙂 I read the post regarding issues with printing from the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

You’ve done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end. Superb effort and spectacular research were done as well. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 . I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a recent software or windows update?
  • Did you run print and scan doctor and check if the issue gets corrected.
  • For a start please try to run print and scan doctor from this link: http://hp.care/2syjvp6; and check if the issue gets resovled.
  • If it does not then please try to uninstall the printer by following these steps:
  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

  • Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2gQYX7a and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer. Then check if the issue gets resolved.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

It happened after I had reset Windows to it's original install.

I ran the print and scan doctor, and followed all the steps you indicated.

Windows will not let me download the driver for the printer to my desktop.  The software is there, but not the driver.

When I am Installing Network Device, it runs and runs for quite a long time.

Then I get these messages:

Unsuccesful network installation.

Tool to fix HP printer driver GPD file issue not found.

When I am in the print and scan doctor, the program cannot locate my network there either.

I'm at a loss.
