Officejet 4635
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have tried multiple avenues and cannot get my scanner to work. The printer prints without complication. When I try to scan it says:

The HP Officetjet 4630 series was not found.

I have the printer plugged in via USB cable directly. It has scanned when I do the network option, but it scans to a webpage and I have to copy as a jpg. I like being able to scan it directly on to computer in pdf format.

I have:

1. Turned everything on and off

2. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Software

3. Downloaded Scan Doctor (Did not work at all, got halfway through twice and then program freezes and doesn't do anything else)

Quite frustrating. Any other clues as to why this happening and how to resolve?

Hello, @islavistadoc – Greetings!

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I’m glad to help with the printer scanning issue 🙂

Going through your post, it looks like an issue with the print drivers. I do understand that you have already uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and have even tried to run the PSDR. I’d suggest performing a clean printer install as suggested below:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer, if present.
  • Go to Control Panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control Panel – Devices and Printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now, click http://hp.care/2q4usyP to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
  • Restart the PC and then open the HP Scan application by opening the printer assistant window. Double-click the printer icon on your desktop to open the HP Printer assistant.

If the issue persists, try using the HP Scan and Capture app to scan. You can get it here: http://hp.care/2tC6zg5

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

Seems to be the same problem others had a year ago.  Need to see if there were any recent updates, but the printer works fine, but the system won't recognize it for scanning.  I've erased all the software, drivers, etc. as past people have recommended, unplugged the printer, unplugged the USB, waited a minute, turned off the PC, then restarted all.  It quickly recognizes the printer, installs the latest driver, but still won't recognize the scanner.  The error message says it can't communicate with the PC.  Running scan doctor it says the driver is the problem...so I'm at a loss here of what to do.
