HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer

My HP 4650 printer is randomly printing the configuration page several times a day now.  It will also print out a blank page every so often.  I have already reset the printer.  I have, at least according to the smart app, updated firmware.  I connect to the printer using PC and apple devices and windows on a network.  This is frustrating and not to mention a waste of paper and ink.

Hi @bevjab ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer is printing configuration pages or blank pages randomly, the issue could be related to software, network settings, or queued print jobs.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check for Pending Print Jobs:

  • Windows: Go to the "Devices and Printers" section, right-click on your HP printer, and select "See what's printing." Cancel any print jobs that are stuck in the queue.
  • macOS: Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," select your HP printer, and click "Open Print Queue" to clear any jobs.
  • Ensure no old print jobs are being retried automatically by the system.

2. Disable Automatic Configuration Page Printing:

  • Sometimes, the printer might have a setting enabled that prints a configuration page automatically after a network reset or power cycle.
  • Access your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    1. Find the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page (press the wireless icon or look at settings on the printer’s display).
    2. Enter the IP address in a web browser on your computer.
    3. Once in the EWS, look for any option related to printing configuration pages or status reports and disable it.

3. Check HP Smart App Settings:

  • Verify that the HP Smart App is not automatically sending status or diagnostic pages to the printer.
  • Open the app, check the printer settings, and look for any reporting or diagnostics options that might be triggering prints.

4. Update Printer Drivers and Software:

  • Ensure that the latest drivers are installed for your printer on both your PC and macOS devices.
  • Go to HP’s Driver Support Page for the HP OfficeJet 4655 and download the latest software or drivers, if needed.

5. Restart Your Devices and Router:

  • Power off the printer, your PC, macOS devices, and router for a few minutes, then restart them. This will clear any network-related issues that could be triggering unnecessary print jobs.

6. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Sometimes, this can reset internal configurations causing the issue.

7. Factory Reset the Printer:

If the issue persists, you may consider performing a Factory Reset of the printer. Keep in mind this will erase all current settings, so you'll need to reconfigure the network settings.

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
