HP 5255

HP officejet 5255 screen is stuck on REFRESH 12345. My computer is no longer connected. I have no way to reset it. Unplugging doesn't help.

How is the printer connected? (Wireless or USB)

I suggest you do a Hard Reset on the printer without the cartridges.

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on remove the cartridge.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed to put the cartridges back in.

Hi! Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, it did not work. My printer is connected wirelessly to WiFi. It was connected wirelessly to my phone and to my computer. Neither can find it now.

I tried to follow the instructions above. The first thing that went wrong is that I cannot extract the ink cartridges. They are seated far to the right. They will not move, even with a nudge. I was able to get the color one out but still no movement. After completing the other steps, there was no response. The error message remains in the screen. No buttons have any response.
