HP 6500 Duplex Printing not Available

I understand this printer is out date and unsupported however, I am hopeful that someone can help me.

I found driver version 14.8 and installed it on my computer.  The printer did not come with a duplexer however I found one and installed it.  When I run a printer status report, it shows the duplexer not installed.  Is there a way to get into the maintenance/engineering setup menu and tell the printer that the duplexer is present?  The driver page showing Installed Options shows nothing.  Possibly an issue with the installation not selecting files for Windows 10 when the driver is for Windows 7.  Everything seems to work except the printer won't recognize the duplexer unit.

I have gotten into the Resets menu and performed a partial-full reset.  This did nothing except align the printheads and eat up more rather expensive ink.

Hi Kirk

An HP Officejet 6500 printer does not offer any automatic duplex capabilities, neither as a standard nor with any optional accessory, the duplexer accessory is intended for the 6500 Wireless model only for the series, and cannot be used with an Officejet 6500 (E709a) printer.

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I'm just throwing good money after bad.  The printer status report shows Duplexer: not installed instead of not supported.  It installs just fine on the back of the machine.  The driver config has the entries commented out.  It prints fine and allows me to use the printhead and cartridges from my 6500a that quit picking up paper because of a split gear.
