I have two HP officejet printers (all-in-one) and I am using a photo finishing application that requires 64 bit twain for scanning into the application.
I installed the HP printer using the standard installation from HP. Turns out that HP installed the officejet printer with 32 bit twain c:\windows\twain_32.
How to I remove/reinstall HP printer to force a twain_64 in my windows 64 bit OS?

@bob_the_builder, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The scanning software is a part of the full-feature software available on the HP Support site. To remove, you will have to uninstall the complete driver package from your PC.
Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
- Select your HP Printer
- Select Uninstall
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
- In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
- Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the “Drivers” tab
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
- Select Ok
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
- Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.
Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver. (For Win-64 bit)
Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar,
I followed your instructioins and removed the drivers and printers, rebooted and loaded the "large" HP full-featured driver package.
Tried to configure my wireless printer (that had just been working) and the software complained it could not find it to configure it. So I then went to the HP support assistant and it correctly configured the wireless printer to include it on the system and also could be accessed from my other windows 10 64 bit OS computers on the network.
All that to say, I renamed the c:\windows\twain_32\HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 to "old_HP Officejet Pro 6970
After everything was again running, I never saw a c:\windows\twain_64\HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 appear, and I never saw the system rebuild the twain_32\HP OfficeJet Pro 6970.
All that to say, my photoshop software cannot find any 64 bit twain scanner to import a color picture into my software.
It's a long way to say that this solution did not create a 64 bit twain source.
Printers work fine for printing, and printers also scan using the HP SMART scan function.
Again, I'm left with trying to get the HP 6978 scan/printer to use a twain_64 bit solution.
Now if you believe it is running twain_64 bit, then where do I need to look in the OS, to prove that this is indeed 64 bit so that I can then go back to the photo company and tell them, their software is not allowing a valid 64 bit scan driver to import into their software.
thanks for you patient help bob-the-builder
