HP smart tank 7000 had been working. Now once again it shows off line. Tried rebooting the wifi router, the PC, the printer - none of these steps resolved connectivity - constantly shows as off line. Troubleshooter wizard found nothing.
Put the printer into reset back to factory specs - been through this whole process with this printer multiple times. Uninstalled printer from Win 10 Laptop. Rebooted laptop and wifi. Then using HP Smart tried to add printer. Get "that didn't work" --very non-helpful message.
Now printer is not in my Printers list - so I can't uninstall it to try again. In HP Smart if I add printer I get the above. If I go to Printers and Scanners, select Add Printer I get the below error:
Nothing works. Very disgusting in having lost now 2+ hours in all these attempts and NOTHING is WORKING!

Hi @DaveMak,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank 7000 series printer. It sounds like you've tried a lot of good troubleshooting steps already. Let’s try to narrow down the issue and hopefully resolve it.
1. Check Printer's Network Connection
- Verify Network: Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PC. Check the printer’s network settings to confirm it is connected.
- Printer's IP Address: If you can access the printer's control panel, check the IP address assigned to the printer. Ensure it is valid and matches your network’s range.
2. Reinstall the Printer Drivers
- Download Drivers: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Smart Tank 7000 series printer compatible with Windows 10.
- Clean Install: Uninstall any remnants of the printer software. You might need a tool like HP’s Print and Scan Doctor to clean up the installation.
- Install Drivers: After cleaning up, install the downloaded drivers and follow the setup instructions. HP Print and Scan Doctor
3. HP Smart App Reinstallation
- Uninstall HP Smart: Go to Settings > Apps, find HP Smart, and uninstall it.
- Reinstall HP Smart: Download and install the latest version from the HP printer setup (HP Smart app.
4. Network Settings Check
- Router Settings: Ensure there are no network settings or firewall rules blocking the printer’s communication with your PC.
- IP Conflict: Check if another device on your network is using the same IP address as the printer.
5. Manual IP Configuration
- Access Printer Settings: If you can access the printer’s web interface using its IP address, you might be able to manually configure the network settings.
- Set Static IP: Assign a static IP address to avoid future conflicts.
6. Check Windows Services
- Print Spooler Service: Ensure the Print Spooler service is running. You can check this in the Services application (services.msc). Restart the service if needed.
7. Windows Update and System Check
- Update Windows: Ensure your Windows 10 system is fully updated as sometimes updates can resolve compatibility issues.
- System Integrity Check: Run sfc /scannow in Command Prompt as an administrator to check for system file corruption.
