HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Launched the firmware update download from HP site  (v 2415c) and update failed. Now the printer is completely stuck on "verifying" at startup. On/off button does not work. Control panel not accessible. Printers does not login to network or connects in any way.

I tried to unplug it / keep it off for 60 seconds / replug it directly to wall socket. But same results - it turns on stuck on the "verifying" screen.

Hi @Teodoro_12,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer is experiencing a firmware update failure, and now it's stuck on the "verifying" screen without responding to any commands. Here are a few steps you can try to potentially resolve the issue:

Hard Reset:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for about 5 minutes to ensure all residual power is drained from the printer.
  • Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.
  • See if the printer boots up normally after this reset.

Factory Reset:

  • If the hard reset doesn't work, try performing a factory reset on the printer. This will reset all settings, including the firmware.
  • The method to perform a factory reset can vary among printer models, so refer to the user manual or HP's support website for specific instructions on how to do this for your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer series User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

These are the instructions to do the factory reset from the 'Refer to the Document link' you give.

Unfortunately, this isn't possible when the Verifying... message is displaying because it's stuck and you can't do anything except look in exasperation at the word Verifying...

Is there anything else that can be done please?

To restore the selected printer functions to the original factory settings

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the

Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).

2. Touch Printer Maintenance .

3. Touch Restore.

4. Touch Restore Settings.

5. Select which function you would like to restore to the original factory settings:

● Copy

● Scan

● Fax

● Photo

● Network

Touch Restore.

A message appears stating that the settings will be restored.

6. Touch Restore.
