Officejet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My wireless printer was working fine until yesterday.  Then I submitted a print job and nothing happened, so I checked the status of the printer in Windows 10 settings.  It could see the printer, but said the driver was unavailable.  I ran HP Smart and used it to re-download the full driver.  I keep getting the same results.

The results of Printer Details from HP Smart are:

Name:  HP585AA7 (HP OfficeJet Pro 8710)

Status:  Ready

Model Name:  HP OfficeJet Pro 8710

Installation Status:  Not installed

Connection type: Network

Connection Status:  Active

...

I can easily connect to the network using the setup wizard, but my computer doesn't recognize it (or at least the driver).

Help.

A few more details to add to my post.

I am using a Dell 8100 computer.

My wife has an HP 550.  I just went in to her office and tried to print to my printer from her computer.  It printed perfectly.  What can be wrong with the settings or software my computer?  We know that the printer and network connection are working correctly.

The software prompted me to update drivers, and when I did this, I am now experiencing the exact same problem.  In the computer settings, I get a "driver unavailable" message.  I can see the printer, fax seems to work, and I can ePrint to the printer, but I cannot direclty print to it.  HELP!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are having issues printing from your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the below steps to perform a root level uninstall and then reinstall the printer software.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

I followed all of the suggestions in your reply.  It took 2-3 hours to do the followup when that didn't work.  After completely scrubbing my computer and reloading everything, I still get the same results.

I can't devote any more time to this problem, so I'll wait until either Microsoft or HP comes up with a solution and makes new software available.

Looked for hours for a solution that worked. Thanks for the deeper dive with the Run command to dig the problem out of MSDOS. 🙂
