I have tried to install my current printer, an HP Officejet Pro 8715, on my new iMac - M1.
I have tried to install the recommended software, but while the printer works fine, I am unable to use the facility 'scan to computer' which was particularly useful to me on my old Mac. From research on the website, I understand that you are supposed to 'enable' the scan to computer facility using the 'HP Utility' product, which is supposed to be installed along with the driver.
On my Mac this is NOT installed and now I cannot find any way of 'enabling' "Scan to Computer".
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Geoff

Hi,
Please follow below version of HP Easy Start:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip
As soon as HP Easy start prompts to install HP Smart, close HP Easy Start and press the Skip to Software Download button, then follow the steps on screen to complete the installation of the HP Essential Software and check for any difference.

Hi Shalomi,
I followed your link with the intent of trying your suggestion. I can download from thie link ok and the installation starts up fine, to which I answer a couple of questions, but then it hangs at "HP Easy Start" "Preparing for Device Setup...". so I don't ever have the chance to close Easy Start or press any "Skip to Software Download Button". It's been stuck on the screen now for the past 10 minutes, so I gave up.
May I also ask why there isn't a straightforward "download and run this software" option, rather than having to interrupt something else? I love HP printers, but I'm afraid I have no faith or confidence in their installation software. Their website is so confusing and doesn't give clear instruction on what you should be doing.
I am an experienced computer professional of some 35 years and yet I am confused by this! God knows what a rookie user would make of it!
Any further help you can provide, I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
Geoff

OK - so when I decided to kill the wait, I got the 'Skip to download software' button as an option and downloaded and installed the software.
I was then able to run the HP Utility app to try to enable the Scan to Computer facility which is what started this complete farce in setting up my printer. So, in the Utility my printer device (and fax device), However, when I select the device, the Utility HANGS again stating 'retrieving information...'
I've been at this for at least TWO HOURS now, trying to get my printer fully functional on my new Mac and it is proving to be a bit of a trial.
Regards,
Geoff
