“The printer update could not be downloaded” persisting. - I tried resetting the printer, disconnected the power cord both from the printer and for the mains. Tried again. Same error repeats daily.  It is very frustrating.

It will restart if i click cancel, and it takes a while to cycle on.

What can i do?

The problem is on HP's side.  For now just disable the updates:

Run the HP Smart application and choose "Printer Settings" which will take you to the embedded web GUI for the printer and then choose "SETTINGS" from the menu at the top.

On the left side click the + next to "Security" and choose "Administrator Settings"

Scroll all the way down to the bottom and uncheck both printer update boxes.

This didn't work because when i went to the settings in HP smart it said it couldn't connect to the EWS Page.

What did work was using the menu on the printer to get to the disable menu options and i turned off the updates for the firmware.

I have the same issue, also cannot access the page referenced through HP Smart directly; and unfortunately when I try to disable on the printer directly, it says "This feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer", who is me, and I do not recall locking anything. Unable to update, unable to disable updates, this is turning into a nightmare.
