Newest printer models are not supported in obsolete OS like Windows XP and windows Visa, you will hardly get that printer to work on XP. Old operating systems and old programs require obsolete printers, not the newest models.
Operating system (supported note) | Windows XP and Windows Vista not supported |

Valsimot,
I'm only new to this support page and I notice there is the "expert" tag under your name.
The hp 9012 was bought to replace a hp 8710 which although a few years old now worked flawlessly with my windows 7 desktop, windows xp laptop and kid's apple macs. Externally at least both printers were very similar and the ink jet packs and cartridges were almost identical.
As such although I appreciate your input its not really constructive.
I suspect its more a decision on HP's part to not develop drivers for older operating systems which I think is short sighted because people in my position will look towards other manufacturers. If there was a suitable driver I think it would work quite well.
Hopefully someone else may have better news for me.
Thanks Michael.

Valsimot,
By your reasoning since the 8710 is supported in XP and 9012 is not supported this makes the printers that much different?
And by paraphrasing my last comment "Hopefully.........you"
Once again not helpful and sarcastic .
Would be nice to stop commenting to this thread and allow someone else the opportunity to be helpful.

Hi @Michael351,
First of all, this is a peer to peer community, and I do not see where is the sarcasm when @Valsimot, volunteering on his personal time and trying to provide you an answer to your question, you may don't like the answer, but No is an answer too.
Personally, I do believe you may reply with some more respect for another user who is just trying to assist you as he can.
I'm not trying to educate in any way, but just sharing my personal opinion.
Windows XP, an operating system from 2001 and no longer supported by Microsoft for over 6 full years, this is quite obsolete now and hardly supported by latest printers of any manufacturers, here are just some random samples:
And generally, these are the only samples I randomly reviewed, and NONE mention any XP compatibility...
One main key difference between the 8710 and the 9012 printers is the time, newer products provide compatibility for newer operating systems, the world is going forward and backward compatibility is not offered forever.
You may able to find some older or different HP printers which support XP, such as the HP LaserJet Pro M283 series is available in Australia and supports XP, the OfficeJet 5220 Printer as well as an example, both offers basic compatibility with Windows XP (Service Pack 3, 32-bit only) either from HP or from any other manufacture you should always review the product specifications, even further when you have so specific needs.
For the Officejet Pro 9012 printer, it is not compatible with XP and no driver exists for the operating system, as listed by its specifications.
