HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer

Never had a problem with this option until trying today.  Gives only 1-sided when trying to scan document for PDF using feeder.  Tried seeing if drivers needed updating - HPSmart says they are current.  Rebooted both PC & 9018, no change.

Hi @CTS57

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when a feature you’ve relied on suddenly seems to vanish, especially with something as practical as 2‑sided scanning. You’ve already done the right steps by checking drivers and rebooting both the printer and PC, so let’s build on that effort with a few focused checks:

Step 1: Confirm Scan Settings in HP App

  1. Open the HP App on your Windows PC.
  2. Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 from the home screen.
  3. Go to ScanScan Settings.
  4. Under Source, ensure you select Document Feeder.
  5. Look for the Sides option and change it to 2‑sided (Duplex) if available.

Step 2: Use Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. On your PC, open a browser and type the printer’s IP address (you can find this on the printer’s control panel under Network Settings).
  2. Once the EWS opens, navigate to Scan settings.
  3. Check if the duplex option is enabled for feeder scans.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware

Even if drivers are current, firmware updates can restore missing features.

  1. Visit HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 Drivers and Firmware.
  2. Enter your exact model and download the latest firmware package.
  3. Install it and restart the printer.

Step 4: Reset Printer Settings

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to SetupServiceRestore Defaults.
  2. After reset, reconnect the printer to your network and re‑add it in the HP App.
  3. Try scanning again with the feeder and check if the duplex option reappears.

Step 5: Test with HP Scan and Capture (Windows Store App)

  1. Download HP Scan and Capture from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Run a feeder scan and check if the duplex option is available there.
  3. This helps confirm whether the issue is app‑specific or printer‑side.

These steps should help bring back the smooth, double‑sided scanning experience you’re used to. The firmware update and checking the HP App’s scan settings are often the key to restoring the duplex option.
