HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I just set up my new HP 9125e printer and everything is working fine except that I do not have the option to print double sided from Mac computers.  Double sided printing is working from a PC or from the printer itself (for example, if I select 1-sided to 2-sided copying) but the option is greyed out or missing entirely on my Mac computers.  Another detail, which may or may not be relevant, is that the computer shows up on the network as an HP 9120e (not HP 9105e).  Since the printer is capable of double sided printing from a PC, it seems to me that this is an issue with the driver for Mac.  I called tech support and we were not able to fix it, even after uninstalling and reinstalling HP Smart, restarting the computer and printer, etc.  Any ideas?

Hi @Printeruser113 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue of double-sided printing not being available on your Mac with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e, you can follow these steps to ensure the correct driver is installed and configured:

Remove the Printer from System Preferences:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e printer and click the (-) button to remove it.

Reset the Printing System (Optional):

  • If the issue persists, you might consider resetting the printing system.
  • In the Printers & Scanners window, right-click (or Ctrl-click) in the printer list and choose Reset printing system.
  • Confirm the reset. This will remove all printers and scanners, so you will need to re-add any other devices you use.

Download and Install the Latest HP Driver:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e.
  • Install the software, ensuring you download any necessary drivers specifically for macOS 12.0 Monterey.

Add the Printer Using IP Address (Optional):

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and click the (+) Add button.
  • Select the IP tab.
  • Enter the IP address of the printer (you can find this on the printer’s network settings page).
  • Make sure the Protocol is set to HP Jetdirect - Socket.
  • The system should automatically identify the printer and download the appropriate driver.

Verify Duplex Printing Option:

  • After adding the printer, select it and click on Options & Supplies.
  • Go to the Driver tab and make sure the Duplex Printing Unit option is checked.

Print Settings:

  • When printing a document, open the print dialog.
  • Click on Show Details to expand the print options.
  • Look for the Two-Sided or Duplex option and select it.
  • If the option is still greyed out, try selecting a different preset or changing the paper handling settings to see if it becomes available.

Use HP Smart App (Optional):

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed from the Mac App Store.
  • Open HP Smart and see if you can configure duplex printing through the app’s print settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
