HP OfficeJet Pro 9720e Wide Format All-in-One Printer
  • In photocopy mode my 9730e is adding a 13mm margin top & bottom of my original.
  • This effectively reduces my original by those dimensions.
  • My original is A4 with an 8mm top margin & only 3mm bottom, 3-4mm at both sides.
  • Why won't it just photocopy that?
  • I cannot adjust margins, it's not an image on a computer, it is an actual, physical copy.
  • I thought photo meant just that photo what it sees (scans) not add margins that aren't on the original document.
  • I have Googled it & it says Select Print then Press "Options" or navigate to the "Advance Preset" menu to find settings related to copy size scaling, or cropping.
  • There is no "Options" or "Advance Presets" on the screen!
  • Is the m/c faulty?
  • Should it just photocopy without adding margins?
  • Should it have to find settings related to copy size, scaling, or cropping.  on the touchscreen?
  • I don't have either photocopy function just photocopying what's there
  • I don't have "Options" or "Advance Presets" on the screen on the screen either to be able to adjust or eliminate extra margins.

@alan9730e, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing unexpected top and bottom margins (13mm) when photocopying on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One printer, even though your original document has smaller margins. Let's walk through how to resolve this.

The printer may be applying default copy scaling or margin settings that are intended to prevent clipping or accommodate borderless printing limitations. However, these can be adjusted.

Steps to Adjust Copy Settings on the Touchscreen

Access Copy Settings:

  • On the printer's touchscreen, tap Copy.
  • Choose Document or Photo, depending on your original.

Modify Copy Preferences:

  • Tap the gear icon ⚙️ or Settings (may appear as a menu or "Edit").
  • Look for options like:
    • Resize or Scaling → Set to 100% (to avoid auto-resizing).
    • Fit to Page → Turn Off if enabled.
    • Enhancements → Disable any auto-cropping or margin enhancements.

Advanced Settings:

  • If available, tap More Settings or Advanced Presets.
  • Disable any Auto Adjust Margins or Borderless Copy options that may be interfering.

Preview and Copy:

  • Use the Preview feature if available to confirm the margins before copying.
  • Place the original properly aligned on the scanner glass (flush to the corner guides).

🛠️ If You Don’t See These Options

Some users have reported missing “Options” or “Advanced Presets” on the screen. In that case:

If none of the above resolves the issue, try:

  • Resetting the printer to factory defaults via Settings > Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  • Scanning the document first, then printing it as a workaround to bypass copy limitations.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
