Welcome to the HP English Community --

Whether the app can clear itself depends on where the underlying cause of the problem is located.

For example,

If the cause is in the application itself or in the application's data that is kept in your user account, then issuing an HP app Reset might allow the application to recover.

Important

Every device where HP app is installed must be running the latest version of the application for that device.  This means that if you have HP app installed on another computer, tablet, or phone, that installation of the application must be a the latest version available on that platform.

What else?

If the reason the application cannot recover is an error deeper in the Windows Operating System, then the Reset of the app won't touch the source of the problem.  File System corruption is nearly impossible to prove or repair with any of the HP app diagnostic tools -- the HP app diagnostics does not delve into the OS to root out where File System problems might be located.

The general solution -- much hated  -- is to reload Windows.  Assuming the File System is the source of the problem(s), reloading the OS works.

NOTE

If you skip one or more steps and nothing works, consider going back and adding any missed checkpoints.

Start

Reminder

It is important that every device is using the latest version of the HP app for that device type.

Check / Update >> Every device (computer(s) and mobile) where HP app is installed should be running the latest version of the HP application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).

AND

The printer and device (computer, tablet, phone) where HP app is running should be on the same network.

That might be enough…

Stop if everything is now working.

Next,

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network

That might be enough (at least short term) -- check...

Stop if everything is now working.

Next,

Windows

Check / Run Windows Updates > Install any pending updates

Next,

If not previously completed,

Restart everything, including the router that controls your network.

Can’t stand it?  Consider:  Restart computer(s) and printer.

Next,

Open and Check HP app

Stop if everything is now working.

If the HP app opens but does not work or hangs partly open:

Close the HP App

If you cannot close HP app: Restart the computer and log in

Do not start the HP app yet.
