I have a just over one year old HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e. I registered initially for the insta ink but since the printer is only used seasonally I cancelled. Yesterday I bought the standard non-insta ink cartridges. Installed them, did a print alignment, I can photocopy to print BUT since HP makes owners use their HP app to print. I cannot print. I have tried through the HP app on three different devices, iPhone, iPad, Windows 11 laptop. Every single time even though the app shows that I have genuine HP standard cartridges in, the app keeps forcing me to the insta-ink registration page. There is no way to close this page and NO by-pass option on any of the HP App versions I have tried.

I contacted HP support and was told by Adolphus N at HP: "if the "Skip" option is not visible, it is usually HIDDEN at the bottom of the enrollment screen". How am I supposed to be able to skip when HP has hidden the option to allow that? It is a clear violation of the agreement that the printer can be used for printing with standard HP cartridges when HP intentionally hides the option to by-pass the subscription printing.

I have spent over $100 on legitimate HP cartridges per the printer requirements to find that there is no way to by-pass the subscription because HP intentionally blocks a skip option through their app.

HP technical support has not offered any solution other than tough luck and your printer is 3 weeks out of warranty. Pretty angry, have used HP for years and directed our business IT consultant to procure HP products. Never again. I will try the better business bureau as a next step.

Cannot speak to the MAC part of this, but for Windows, you should be able to download a driver from support.hp.com and simply not use the app.

I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.
