The HP App keeps crashing when I go to open it up. This app used to work on my Mac and my Officejet Pro 8715 printer with no issues. Now am using Big Sur V11.4 and the App keeps crashing when I try to open it. I've done all the Troubleshooting steps (Uninstall, delete from Printers list, etc) available but still nothing has helped. What am I overlooking??

I found a solution. The application VueScan finds the printer/scanner and works great. The App is in the App Store. A little confusing on installation. So go to YouTube VueScan and find some instructions.
Aparently this app does a little reverse engineering so that your Mac works like it used to work.
This is not a free App, but it is cheaper than a new printer.
Hope this works for you too,

I believe it's a problem with the latest version of the HP app (12.7.1; release May 7, 2021). I'm running MacOS 11.4 and HP app version 12.7.1 crashes whenever I try to start the app. The previous version of the HP app worked fine with MacOS 11.4. Curiously, I used the HP app on the same computer but logged in as a different user and the app works. Hate that the app also now forces each user to create a HP account to use the printer/scanner.

How were you able to login to the HP Smart App as a different User on your computer? I can’t get the app to launch long enough to do that! Brilliant solution….and hope the App’s Developers come up with an update soon to fix this issue. For now I have to use the printer’s webpage to scan anything to save on the computer. A painful work around! Your solution sounds much easier so hope I can try it out on my computer.

I am working on my HP smart tank 515 like the same way you mentioned, "For now I have to use the printer’s webpage to scan anything to save on the computer".
If the app. will not work on masOS Big Sur, the HP shouldn't say that the app. compatible with Big Sur, most of the people update their computers with the latest macOS release.

I am having the same experience. To be clear, re. the referenced post, you are not logging out of HP Smart you are logging out on your mac and then logging back in as a different/new user. HP smart will load and work normally under the new mac user login. However if you log out again and log back in to your mac with your orginal login HP smart will not work. There is a hidden file or preference (plist?) somewhere that must be causing the problem. So far no luck ferreting it out.

I have 3 accounts setup: Admin, user1 and user2. I installed the HP app on the Admin account so the application is available for all users. The user1 is the main account. User2 is my wife's account but had never started or used the HP app prior to the HP app crashing issues. I initially balked at creating a new HP account for user2 but finally decided to use my HP account when starting the HP app on the user2 account.
PS - Still crashing with the newest version 12.8.0 released June 22, 2021.

UPDATE - I had a call from HP directly. Yes, it is the App that is having the problem with the latest version of Big Sur. I was told to use the Printer's webpage for the interim until the Developers have a chance to fix the bugs with the HP Smart App. Guess we all were correct! Unfortunately I have only my account and no additional users so no access to the previous version of the App. So for now, am using the printer's webpage to scan documents to my computer. Hope they get a fix out soon!
