The power was off in our neighbourhood and when it was restored I got the message on my printer to "Finish Step" .  This is day 2 of trying to do just that.

The App will not recognize the printer. WiFi is connected (blue light is solid).

I am at a loss      Help!

Hi @Nana802,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with your HP printer where the app is instructing you to "Finish Setup" and is not recognizing the printer, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Restart All Devices:

  • Turn off and then turn back on your printer.
  • Restart your router to refresh the network connection.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device you’re using to set up the printer.

Reconnect Printer to WiFi:

  • Even if the blue light is solid, reconnect your printer to the WiFi network.
  • On the printer control panel, go to the network settings or wireless menu and select the option to reconnect or reconfigure wireless settings.

Forget and Re-add Printer in HP App:

  • In the HP App, remove the printer if it appears. Then, try adding it again by searching for it using the "Add Printer" option.

Ensure Network Compatibility:

  • Ensure that your printer and the device with the HP Smart App are connected to the same network.
  • Ensure your WiFi network is working correctly and there are no network issues.

Update or Reinstall HP App:

  • Check for any updates to the HP App.
  • Consider uninstalling and reinstalling the HP App to ensure you have the latest version.

Manual Setup Mode:

  • Some printers allow you to use a manual setup mode where you connect your mobile device directly to the printer's WiFi connection to perform the setup.

Router Configuration:

  • Verify that the router is not restricting devices from connecting to the network (like MAC filtering or parental controls).

Factory Reset the Printer:

  • As a last resort, perform a factory reset on the printer and try setting it up again.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks Jerry   As I had already tried everything else you suggested, I set the printer to factory and everything hooked up perfectly.  I will remember that for next time 🤣

Hi @Nana802,

I’m glad the factory reset brought everything back together — like gears clicking smoothly into place. Thank you for letting us know!
