HP LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw

Okay,

when i bought the printer last year, everything installed clean and smooth, and the software worked.

Wanted to scan a document for OCR into a pdf, and that meant loading HP software.

I have Been at this for hours, with no success.

First i went to start Hp App.  It crashed and said it wasn't working.  Couldn't find the app or something.  (Never been a fan of the App Stores that install things without fully letting me control where and how, and this situation proves why).

So i went to Apps and Features, and uninstalled HP App.

I went to Microsoft Store, and tried to install it again.  and get the HP App, Couldn't Install, We'll retry shortly.  message from Windows 10.image.png

I then proceed to uninstall again.  rebooted.  went through all the steps to update windows so now everything is fully updated.

HP App is no longer in the installed Apps & Features list nor is it present in the WindowsApps folder on the harddrive.

Went to all the other folders to make sure there was no HP anything on my computer, cleaned the registry, everything.

rebooted several times after clearing out all temp data, all remnant install data.  However, The WIndows Store still lists the application as 'Owned', with only the Update button available, which gives me the same "Couldn't install" error every time i click it.

I tried searching online for HP software, and found the "LJM278-M281_UWWL_4_1_Full_WebPack_44.3.2218" download, but that software just ran me around in circles instead of just installing.  It only seemed to have "Device Select" or Registration Option, and i couldn't just install the software.

Now, I can use the printer with the direct installed windows driver, but none of the HP software works.

Thanks

HP  app won't help you much here because it is designed fo mobile devices to be able to get a quick scan, not fancy scan because OCR runs on your computer, not your printer.

You have to use HP Scan from your computer. The following image shows Scan options on my loan Laser printer which is a little brother of yours. I've got this printer early May 2018 but only installed around 3 weeks ago because it comes with 110V option and I bought a stepdown transformer from 240V to 110V few weeks later.

I simply click HP Scan (one of two HP Printer icons) on desktop (machine runs Windows 10 Home) and it will come up with the above menu

Looks like you have not installed software and drivers properly. Please download an run the following tool (for Windows computers only):

      http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

It may fix the problem for you. If not, post back full error message(s).

Regards.
