I recently moved and I am trying to set up my printer at my new home with new WiFi.

I have removed my printer and added it again to my Added Printers on my MacBook (MacOS 15.6).

I am going through the steps of creating new Certificate, but I keep getting "Failed to create certificate. Please try again."

I have updated the time and date.

Any remedies other than paying $20 to get it troubleshooted or being a Windows computer?

@ChellyJones, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If the certificate on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 has expired, you'll need to install a new certificate to ensure secure communication. Here's a general guideline on how to do it:

Renewing the Certificate

Generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR):

  • Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of the printer.
  • Navigate to the section for certificate management, and generate a CSR. This request will contain information about your printer needed for the Certificate Authority (CA) to issue a new certificate.

Obtain a new certificate from a Certificate Authority:

  • Use the generated CSR to request a new certificate from a CA.
  • Once you receive the certificate, you may need to convert it to a format compatible with your printer, such as PFX.

Install the new certificate on your printer:

  • Return to the EWS.
  • Locate the option to import a certificate and private key. Use this to upload the new certificate to your printer.
  • Follow any prompts to complete the installation.

Also, I suggest you refer to this guide: HP printers - 'Encryption Credentials Expired' error (macOS, iOS) | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
