I have used my HP M183fw since I bought it new and set it up on my wifi network, app and used it with airprint.

today I upgraded my network and wanted to change the network setting to my new ssid. Surprised that I was not able to do this i set on a quest to find the default admin pin or password with no luck. User manuel is not mentioning anything about this and to "factory reset"  i have to go into the service menu and choose  this option that prompt me for a password:
On the printer control panel, press the Setup button .
2. Open the Service menu.
3. Select Restore Defaults.
The printer automatically restarts.

I am not able to reset using usb and access setup in the HPsmart since it also prompt me for a password that is not my login password for HPsmart. Not admin, 12345678, 123, password or any other combination I find online.

So what gives? I was able to hold wifi button on the printer to reset wifi and lucky me I was then promptet with a password to setup wifi, so now I even got a useless printer I am not able to use.

I use this for my business and would really love to have my somewhat expensive brick online again.

Hi @ibico,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're facing an issue with your HP OMEN laptop's admin pin reset. Here's what we can try:

Understanding the Problem:

  • The admin pin you're encountering is likely a Windows login pin, not related to your printer.
  • Upgrading your network might have triggered a security feature that requires the admin pin.

Resetting the Admin Pin:

There are a couple of ways to reset the admin pin depending on if you remember setting it up:

If you remember setting the admin pin:

  • During login, press the "Windows key" + "L" to lock the screen.
  • Click on "Sign-in options" below the login box.
  • Choose "PIN" and then "I forgot my PIN."
  • You'll be prompted to answer your security questions or use a recovery key to reset the PIN.

If you don't remember setting the admin pin or don't have a recovery key:

  • This method involves resetting your PC, which will erase all your data and settings. Make sure to back up your important files before proceeding.
  • Go to the Windows login screen.
  • Click on the power button in the bottom right corner and hold down the "Shift" key while clicking on "Restart."
  • This will boot you into the advanced startup options.
  • Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Reset this PC" > "Remove everything."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
