We just bought the printer and is not connected to the internet. It doesn't allow me to restart or re-establish features in order to start over. It doesn't have a menu to search for a signal. It doesn't connect to my phone via bluetooth. We need the printer.

Hi @Suycam,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301-3304 or 3388 series printer, it seems you're facing issues with connecting to WiFi and restarting the setup process.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Factory Reset the Printer

Since you mentioned the printer doesn't allow you to restart the setup process, performing a factory reset may help clear any previous configurations. To do this:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Power on the printer while pressing and holding the WiFi button (or cancel button) for around 20 seconds (or until the light flashes).
  • This should reset the network settings, allowing you to start the connection process from scratch.

2. Use HP Smart App for Setup HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • Download the HP Smart App on your smartphone or computer (Windows 10 or 11, iOS, or Android).
  • Open the HP Smart app and select "Add a Printer".
  • The app should guide you through the process to connect your printer to the WiFi network. Ensure that both your printer and phone/computer are on the same WiFi network.
  • If the printer doesn't appear during the scan, try placing the printer closer to the WiFi router temporarily.

3. WiFi Setup Mode

If the printer is not in WiFi setup mode:

  • Check for the WiFi icon on the printer or any light indicators. If it is off or not flashing, it means the printer isn’t in WiFi setup mode.
  • Follow the printer’s manual to put it in Wireless Setup Mode by pressing a combination of buttons (usually holding down the WiFi button and cancel button).
  • Once the WiFi light starts blinking, the printer is ready for setup.

4. Bluetooth Setup Issues

This printer might not have direct Bluetooth printing capabilities. However, some models use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to facilitate WiFi setup. Ensure:

  • Bluetooth is enabled on your phone when using the HP Smart App to connect.
  • Keep your phone close to the printer during the setup process.

5. Manually Enter WiFi Credentials (If Possible)

If the HP Smart App fails, try connecting manually:

  • On your computer or mobile device, go to the WiFi settings and connect to the printer’s temporary WiFi network (usually named "HP-Setup-PrinterName").
  • Once connected, open a browser and go to 192.168.223.1. This should open the printer's internal settings page, where you can manually enter your WiFi network name and password.

6. Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

If the issue persists, it's possible that the printer's firmware may need updating. Since the printer isn't connected to WiFi, you may need to update it using a USB cable:

  • Connect the printer to your computer via USB.
  • Visit the HP support website to download the latest firmware for your printer model.
  • Install the firmware using HP’s provided instructions.

7. Router and Network Settings

Ensure your WiFi router is set to 2.4 GHz frequency, as many printers do not support 5 GHz WiFi bands.

8. Check for Interference or IP Conflicts

If your WiFi connection isn't working, ensure there are no IP conflicts or interference (e.g., too many devices connected to the same WiFi). Try restarting your router or creating a guest network for the printer.
