Hi - I have an HP Deskjet 2725 All -in-One Printer/Scanner/Copier.I have been using it successfully for printing using a USB cord because I was never able to get it to print via wi-fi.

I am having trouble getting the scan function to work. I have to use the HP Smart App on my laptop to initiate the scan job (this is how I did it on my previous computer.) I was getting an error message saying the scanner was not detected, but the printer was connected. It did not make much sense to me that the printer was connected and the scanner was not given that it is a single device.

I followed a variety of troubleshooting steps on HP's site. I unplugged the cables and plug for 60 seconds, restarted both laptop and printer. Then I uninstalled the printer and HP Smart App from my laptop as instructed. I added everything back and downloaded new drivers from HP.com. At this point I can't connect the printer in the HP Smart App (I get an error saying No Printers Found.)

The printer is connected to my computer and I can print successfully. The issue is that the only way to scan is by using the HP Smart App and I now can't get it to detect the printer or the scanner.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When you are facing scanning issues or connectivity problems with the HP DeskJet 2725, here are some steps to help you resolve the issues:

Scanning Issues

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that your USB cable is properly connected between the printer and your computer.

  • Confirm that the cable is not damaged and is securely fitted.

Use HP App:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the HP App installed on your computer.

  • Ensure that the app is set up correctly and that it recognizes your printer.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the existing printer software.

  • Download and install the latest printer software and drivers from the HP Support website.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the device on HP Smart.

Reconnecting Printer

For USB Connection:

  • Disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it to ensure a secure connection.

  • Try different USB ports on your computer if the issue persists.

For Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is within range of your Wi-Fi network.

  • Run the Wireless setup wizard directly from the printer's control panel if your printer has a display panel, or reconfigure your wireless connection through the HP app.

  • Restart your router and computer to refresh the network connections.

  • Ensure that no firewall or antivirus software is blocking the printer's connection to your computer.

Using HP App:

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, this did not solve the issue.  It appears to be an issue with the HP App. Prior to my troubleshooting it connected to the printer but the scan error message stated that it could not connect to the scanner. I have done all of the stated steps and now the HP App (which I have uninstalled and reinstalled along with the printer software from your site) and I can no longer add the printer. I was able to connect the PC to the printer using the PC settings so I can print but I still cannot scan.

Restore your printer to the default factory settings using the HP app or internet browser to open the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS). Restoring factory defaults can help resolve printer setup issues, connectivity problems, and error messages.

Open the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) using the printer IP address.

From the EWS home page, click the Settings or System tab.

If you are prompted to log in or enter the printer PIN, enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit or OK. This label is typically located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.
