Hi everyone,
I have an HP DeskJet 2755e printer, and I recently refilled the black ink cartridge, which is an original HP cartridge. However, after refilling, the printer is not recognizing (actually it says that is used) the cartridge and won't allow me to print.
I've done some research and found that HP uses something called 'Dynamic Security' in their printers to ensure only original HP cartridges work. It seems this feature might be blocking my refilled cartridge, even though it's an original HP one and they says this "Dynamic Security" does not affect refilled cartridges.
Here’s what I've tried so far:
Factory Resetting.
Cleaning the cartridge contacts.
Looking for any firmware updates that might be causing this issue.
Unfortunately, none of these steps have worked. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution? Is there a way to bypass or disable the dynamic security feature to use refilled cartridges?
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Hi @sedda,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’ve already taken some good steps to troubleshoot the issue with your HP DeskJet 2755e. HP's Dynamic Security feature is indeed designed to ensure only original cartridges work with their printers, but it can sometimes cause problems with refilled or remanufactured cartridges. Here’s a bit more detail and some additional steps you can try.
Check Cartridge Chip: Ensure that the chip on the cartridge is intact and properly connected. Sometimes, refilling can cause the chip to malfunction or become dislodged.
Reinsert Cartridge: Remove the cartridge and reinsert it firmly, making sure it clicks into place. A loose connection could cause recognition issues.
Reset Printer: Since you've already tried a factory reset, you might try a hard reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.
Update Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Although you mentioned checking for firmware updates, it's worth double-checking to ensure you have the latest version. Sometimes HP releases updates that address cartridge compatibility issues.
Verify Cartridge Authenticity: If the cartridge is indeed an original HP cartridge, verify that it’s properly refilled and that the refilling process didn’t damage it. HP's Dynamic Security can sometimes misinterpret refilled cartridges as non-authentic if the refilling process alters the chip or ink quality.
Try a New Cartridge: If possible, try a new original HP cartridge to see if the printer recognizes it. This can help determine if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer itself.
Disabling Dynamic Security
Currently, there is no user-accessible method to disable Dynamic Security on HP printers. This feature is embedded in the printer’s firmware to enforce HP’s policy on cartridge use.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
