Hello,
When setting up my printer, I set a password for the web interface, but now I don't remember what it is. I've tried restoring ot to defaults, but this didn't seem to fix it either. How can I clear this, or is there a different way to do a full factory reset?
Thank You
Bob C

Hi @techguy1975,

I understand your HP DeskJet 2800e printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) password is lost, and restoring to defaults didn’t clear it. Let’s go through a few steps to help you reset it completely.
a. Power Off and On
Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds.
Plug it back in and power it on to ensure the previous reset attempt fully cleared temporary settings.
b. Perform a Full Factory Reset via Control Panel
1. On the printer control panel, press the Wireless and Cancel/Stop buttons together for about 5–10 seconds (for DeskJet 2800e series).
2. Release the buttons when the Power light blinks.
3. This should restore the printer to factory defaults, including clearing any EWS password.
c. Confirm Reset
Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
Check that the IP address is valid and that the EWS is accessible by entering it in a web browser.
The username and password should now be cleared, or default (blank).
d. Access EWS and Set New Password
1. Open a web browser and type the printer’s IP address.
2. The EWS should open without a password or with the default credentials.
3. Set a new password if needed, and record it securely.
e. If the Password Still Persists
- Ensure you performed the reset exactly with the power on, and both the Wireless + Cancel buttons pressed simultaneously.
- Try a second factory reset after powering the printer off for a longer period (2–3 minutes).I hope this helps.
