Hi everyone,

I've set an admin password for the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on my Deskjet 3639 printer, but unfortunately, I can't remember it. I've already tried various reset methods I found online and on HP's official site (including factory reset and network reset), but none of them seem to remove the password.

From what I've read, there is a solution available, but it’s only shared privately. Could someone please provide me with that solution?

Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,

@Joebilly, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP DeskJet 3639 EWS Password Reset!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

For the HP DeskJet 3639, the admin password for the Embedded Web Server (EWS) is usually the default PIN, which is printed on a label somewhere on the printer — often near the serial number or inside the cartridge access area. It's easy to miss, but take a good look; it might just save you a headache.

If you've already changed the admin password and can’t remember it, unfortunately, a standard network or factory reset won’t always clear it — especially on models tied to HP cloud services. In such cases, for privacy and security reasons, the full reset method isn't publicly posted.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey,

Thanks for your reply!

As mentioned in my original post, I had already set a custom admin password and unfortunately forgot it. I've tried both the network reset and factory reset methods, but they require the admin password to proceed, so they didn’t help.

I also attempted the WLAN + Cancel button reset, but that didn’t clear the password either. At this point, I believe I need access to the full reset method, as none of the standard options have worked.

Looking forward to your guidance—thanks again!

Best regards,

@Joebilly, there are a couple of last-ditch things you can try that sometimes work on DeskJet 3630-series models when the EWS admin password is stuck:

1. Check for the default PIN again

Lift the cartridge access door and look inside — some units hide a small white sticker with a numeric PIN near the carriage path or behind a panel.

Also check under the scanner lid and inside the rear paper path cover. Sometimes the “default password” is still active if the custom one didn’t fully overwrite it.

2. Use HP Smart app reset options

Connect your printer via USB to a PC with the HP Smart app installed.

In the app, go to Advanced SettingsSettingsRestore Defaults (some users report this clears EWS credentials without asking for the admin password).

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey,

Thanks for your reply, but:

  1. There is no default PIN on my device, and as I mentioned earlier, I had changed it but simply cannot remember it now.

  2. I cannot access Advanced Settings because it requires the admin password, which is exactly the issue I’m facing.

Could you please avoid repeating instructions I’ve already tried? If you check the forum, you’ll see there are several identical cases to mine, and they were often resolved quickly through a private message.

I’m not sure if I haven’t described my problem clearly enough, but it feels like we’re going in circles here. Could you please let me know why this case can’t be handled in the same way as those other resolved threads?

Thanks in advance for your understanding.
