I've just installed a HP DeskJet 3700 on Windows 10. The test pages printed Ok but I am unable to print from any Windows applications. I've reinstalled the software twice to no avail. The printer shows up in all the dialogue boxes and when I click print, the printer makes a whirring noise as if it's about to print. But then nothing. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
I understand that the printer is printing the test page but it's not printing from the application, I'll be more curious to get the issue resolved.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did you try to print from a Notepad?
Is the printer selected as a default printer?
Make sure you select the correct printer before you give a print command.
However, I suggest you do a Hard Reset
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Then, Update the firmware of the printer using this link: https://hp.care/2IUOZOX
If the issue persists, I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, Click on this link: https://hp.care/2Lj31aR to download and install the printer drivers.
Keep me posted, how it goes!

I've tried all of that three times to no avail. I've also set a manual TCP/IP address and that didn't work either. It can't be a wireless or a firewall problem as I can print the test pages and network settings that way and while I appreciate the effort of you and your colleagues I'm just going to pack it up and return it to the shop.
I only bought it because my old Epson had died and this was the only one available for same day delivery. That was 3 days ago so I've missed the deadline and will go back to Epson. Thanks for trying.
