I am trying to help an elderly gent out. He has files on an old Windows 98 PC that he needs to print. He has purchased a Deskjet 2710E but I need the drivers to make this work. I can only find later edition drivers.. Can anyone help please?

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
I would go this particular route: download the Windows 7 (64-bit) driver from here: HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support:
If this doesn't work, use the generic printer drivers: Windows 98 includes a set of generic printer drivers that might work with your HP DeskJet 2710e. To use these drivers:
Connect your printer to the computer and turn it on.
Go to the Control Panel and open the "Printers" or "Printers and Faxes" option.
Click "Add Printer."
Follow the on-screen prompts, and when prompted to select a printer driver, choose a generic driver that closely matches your printer type. For example, you can try using a "HP DeskJet" driver if available.
Please note that Windows 98 is an outdated and unsupported (unsafe) operating system, and finding compatible drivers for modern hardware can be extremely challenging. It's possible that you may not be able to get this particular printer to work with Windows 98. If that's the case, you might consider using a more recent version of Windows or a different printer that provides better support for older operating systems.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,
