HP Deskjet 2721 nto recognizing set up cartridges

Worked ok when I installed initially, although the wifi connection kept dropping, used a USB cable and worked fine. Had to reinstall my laptop, printer then asked me to reinstall and asked for set up cartridges. Luckily still had them but even after  I put them in HP Smart still asks me to put them in. I have tried switching off and leaving off, resetting wifi, HP doctor, printing test pages etc. There is no ability to print, scan or copy. There is a small orange light flashing above the colour cartridge symbol. 

This printer is only a couple of months old, I am home schooling and desperately need it to work, please help. I posted on a similar post that offered a solution by private message but I have had no response so posting directly.

took it back to retailer - they were incredibly helpful and used a new set of set up cartridges to kickstart the machine back to life. Hopefully it stays that way.
