Hi

I have an HP Deskjet 2800e printer/scanner that I got about 8 months ago.  I've had problems numerous times with ridiculously slow printing.  After looking for help I found the following suggestions on another post:

Check Print Quality Settings:

  • Open the printer properties on your computer.
  • Go to the "Print Quality" or "Paper/Quality" tab.
  • Ensure it is set to "Normal" or "Draft" mode instead of "Best" or "High Quality," which can slow down printing.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Install the updated drivers and restart your computer.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Go to "Devices and Printers" in Windows.
  • Right-click on your printer and select "See what's printing."
  • Cancel any pending print jobs that might be causing delays.

Check for Firmware UpdatesUpdate the firmware on an HP printer

  • Go to the HP support website to check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer.
  • Follow the instructions to update the firmware if needed.

Perform Printer Maintenance:

  • Run any built-in maintenance tools from the printer’s control panel or software.
  • This might include cleaning printheads or aligning the cartridges.

Check Connection:

  • If you're using a wireless connection, ensure your printer has a strong signal from your router.
  • Consider switching to a USB connection if the wireless connection is unstable.

Reduce Print Data:

  • If you’re printing large files or high-resolution images, try reducing the file size or resolution.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer and computer to clear any temporary issues affecting performance.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

  • Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions that could be affecting print speed.

Refer to this document: HP DeskJet 2810e All-in-One Printer User manual

I've tried all of these, some of them multiple times.  Most times it works, the printer goes back to normal and then the next day it's running slow again.  It's not what I'd expect from an HP printer as someone who has been using the printers and laptops for years.  Are there any other suggestions to try and fix this?

Thanks.

Hi  @Karen2612,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I completely understand how  it must be to deal with slow printing on your HP DeskJet 2800e, especially after already trying so many troubleshooting steps.

I want to help narrow down what’s causing this  repeating issue.

Could you kindly confirm the below details :

Does the slowness happen with all types of documents or only certain files?

Are you printing mostly over Wi-Fi or using a USB connection?

When the printer slows down, do you notice any error messages, blinking lights, or unusual noises?

Does the issue occur more often when printing from a Windows PC, macOS, or mobile device?

Here are a few steps you can try next:

  1. Disable Quiet Mode: Some DeskJet models have a “Quiet Mode” setting that reduces noise but significantly slows printing. Check in the HP app or printer settings to ensure it’s turned off.
  2. Reset Printer Settings: Perform a full reset from the printer’s control panel or HP app. This clears any stuck configurations that may cause delays.
  3. Assign Static IP: If you’re on Wi-Fi, setting a static IP address for the printer can prevent connection drops that lead to slow printing.
  4. Check Spooler Settings: In Windows, set the print spooler to “Start printing immediately” instead of “After last page is spooled.” This often speeds up jobs.

If the problem keeps returning even after these steps, it may point to a issue with the  hardware.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
