Wifi signal here is so poor that I am trying to set up this printer using USB but I am only getting Printer Offline all the time.  Going round in circles.

Hi @Lesley73,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP DeskJet 2800e printer is not detecting the USB connection correctly, resulting in the "Printer Offline" message. Let's troubleshoot this issue.

Check USB Cable and Ports

  • Ensure that the USB cable is properly connected to both the printer and the computer.
  • Try using a different USB port on your computer to rule out any issues with the port.
  • If possible, use a different USB cable to check for cable defects.

Set the Printer to Online Mode

  • On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP DeskJet 2800e printer and select See what's printing.
  • In the print queue window, click Printer in the menu and make sure Use Printer Offline is unchecked. If it's checked, uncheck it.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall any existing HP printer drivers from your computer:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on the printer, and choose Remove Device.
  • Reinstall the latest printer drivers from the HP support website. Select your printer model and download the appropriate software.
  • Run the installation, ensuring you choose the USB connection method when prompted.

Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the USB cable. Restart your computer.
  • Reconnect the USB cable and turn the printer back on to see if the issue resolves.

Check for Software Conflicts

  • Sometimes, other printer software (like from previous printers) can cause conflicts. You may need to uninstall or disable such software temporarily.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply and all the information.  I have yet to try it as frankly it is all so complicated and I don't understand half of it.  I wish i could get one I just plug in and it connects without all the work!  I will have to see.
