HP Deskjet D1530
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Mom was able to print fine on Windows 10 with her 1530 printer for years.  However, her computer was getting sluggish, so I did a factory restore about a week ago.

When I tried to locate drivers from the HP website, I'm directed to software like the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which don't seem to help.  I've been able to get the printer to show on the Windows list of devices, but I can't print to it or check any settings, even though it's on the list.

I tried running the original CD using compatibility mode and as an admin, but it seems to open new windows and the one that checks the OS isn't happy with 10.

Any tips for getting the printer operating on Windows 10, or are we going to have to retire the 1530?  It still seems to run fine, so I just need to get the drivers installed.

Thanks for any help.

Check your personal backups - likely in the Downloads folder - for a copy of the Web Pack installation package.

Note:

Backup software like File History adds a date to the backup file name -- the data is in its original format and can be used.

Not making backups of your personal data?

Unfortunately, unless you have (or can get) an archived copy of the Web Pack installation package that will work with Windows 10, the full driver software is no longer available for your printer in category Software and Drivers and Windows 10.

The built-in drivers provide some basic print features -- this is certainly not the "full feature" experience that is (was) available in the full driver printer software.

HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

Scan?  See Section FAQ > How do I use the printer functions with the built-in driver?

Example

Scan documents and photos: Complete scan jobs with a Windows app that works with the built-in driver.

  • Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer.
  • Windows Paint: In Windows, search for and open Paint. Click FileFrom scanner or camera.
  • Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows Scan (in English) to install it.

HP printers - Windows built-in driver fails to install

Yeah, but - answer is unacceptable.

1) Find / wait for someone who offers a driver from a private collection.

The obvious warnings apply - stay vigilant and be careful of downloading and installing software (or anything) from an unknown source.

Thanks for all the tips.  Next time I'm at her house I'll try and find a back-up.

Bummer that HP doesn't keep an archive or something or older drivers.  Particularly since they are still selling the printer on Amazon.
