Hi @LonClaveria1989,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry you're facing trouble setting up your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2300 series printer with your MacBook Air M2 (macOS Sequoia). I understand how frustrating it can be when the printer doesn’t configure properly or stays idle when trying to print. Let's go through some steps to resolve this issue.

Step 1: Check Compatibility & Install the Correct Drivers

Since you're using macOS Sequoia, ensure that the printer driver is compatible:

Uninstall the Existing Printer Drivers:

  • Click on the Apple menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Remove Printer (- icon).
  • Restart your Mac.

Download and Install the Latest HP Software:

  • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
  • Enter your printer model (HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2300 series).
  • Download and install the driver for macOS Sequoia.
  • Restart your Mac after installation.

Step 2: Reset the Printing System

Resetting can clear any misconfigurations:

  1. Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click anywhere in the Printers list and select Reset Printing System.
  3. Click Reset, then restart your Mac.
  4. Add the printer again by clicking +, selecting your printer, and clicking Add.

Step 3: Manually Select the Correct Printer Driver

If your printer is detected but does not print, ensure the correct driver is selected:

  1. Open Printers & Scanners and select your printer.
  2. Click Options & Supplies > Driver tab.
  3. Under Use, select HP DeskJet Ink Adv 2300 series instead of AirPrint.
  4. Click OK and try printing again.

Step 4: Check HP Smart App (If Required)

Some HP printers require HP Smart for proper configuration:

  1. Download HP Smart from the Mac App Store.
  2. Open HP Smart and follow the setup instructions.
  3. Ensure the printer is connected via USB or Wi-Fi.

Step 5: Reset Printer & Check Connection

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  2. Reconnect the printer to your Mac using a different USB port (if using USB).
  3. If using Wi-Fi, ensure your Mac and printer are connected to the same network.

Step 6: Test Printing

  • Try printing a test page.
  • If the issue persists, check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app or HP Support.

Let me know if any step helps or if the issue persists—I’m happy to assist further! 😊

Take care and have a good day.
